Each quaich is turned from a single timber blank. The finished quaichs are 100mm across the bowl and 155mm across the lugs and are about 50mm high. The are finished with a wood safe oil and come boxed with a cotton draw string bag. The box lid can also include a personalised inscription.
Most of my timber is sourced from the Scottish Highlands, the Oak comes from the Balblair farm which is visible from my workshop. Due to popular demand I can supply American Walnut and Maple.
I can also fit and engrave a metal disc into the underside of the foot. These discs are are made of “trophy metal” which is a highly polished aluminium which does not tarnish or need polished. The discs can be copper, silver or gilt. I am occasionally asked to fit the disc in the base of the quaich bowl and I am happy to do this if required, however these quaichs must be considered as decorative only as they can no longer be cleaned after use,
“Lucky Sixpence’s” are a popular choice and I have a stock of most years from 1930 on. However certain years are surprisingly rare and may incur an extra cost
I can also insert your own coin or medallion onto a quaich of your choice. Please email me to discuss your requirements.
Occasionally, I produce slightly larger quaichs when timber allows. These will be posted in the shop when they are available.
